Radiologists are Doctors
Radiologists are medical doctors (MDs). In addition to certification as physicians, radiologists must pass a licensing examination in the field of radiology and attend at least four years of post-graduate medical schooling in important topics such as radiation safety and protection, its effects on the human body, and the interpretation of radiological and medical imaging exams.
Covering diagnostic, interventional and therapeutic radiology, nuclear medicine, and radiation safety to name a few, radiologists are often able to see problems early by interpreting the results of your imaging study and can provide an accurate diagnosis to your referring physician.
Many radiologists also opt to complete a fellowship. These fellowships are one to two year programs which allow the doctor to receive highly specialized training to learn more about a particular subsection of radiology.
With all of this taken into consideration, radiologists have five to seven years of specialized education and training at minimum.
Additionally, physicians who specialize in radiology are often certified by either the American Board of Radiology or the American Osteopathic Board of Radiology, depending on their doctoral certification. These peer-reviewed certifications are an indication that a radiologist has received high level training and demonstrated excellence in the field, and that they are well qualified to take care of you.
The extensive education, training, and certifications that a radiologist receives ensure that you are in the best hands possible during a radiological procedure.
When a radiological procedure is necessary for your healthcare needs, you will be in the care of highly qualified, knowledgeable and caring individuals who are capable of understanding and performing procedures at an expert level.
